Most states use DUI and DWI interchangeably to mean that you are driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or other substances hence endangering yourself and others. In states where the two are differentiated, DWI refers to your BAC, while DUI refers to your behavior at the time of arrest. Consequently, in these states where DWI and DUI are likely to be separate charges, DWI is worse than DUI. The reason being, unlike a DUI, DWI can easily be backed by scientific evidence.
